Promotion!!!!

Following their win against Penge on Sat LAFC moved into the top spot of the Division. New Community failed to win on Sat guaranteeing LAFC a top 2 finish and promotion to Division 1. Penge play their final game on Saturday against bottom of the table King's. Penge must win the game if they are to win the Division anything else results in LAFC finishing top.

With both Luke and Dave missing from this week LAFC played a makeshift defence and hoped for the best. Things didn’t start well with CCB being awarded an early penalty which they converted. Having been slow to start this gave LAFC the kick they needed. LAFC soon responded with the ever reliable Michael scoring first. Mustafa added a second before half time and third after the half time break. His second goal from a tight angle beating the CCB keeper at his near post. A free kick almost gave Mustafa his hat trick but the keeper managed to block the shot but unfortunately for CCB couldn’t quite keep hold of the ball. The keeper juggled the ball for a while then as Jon ran in to knock the ball into the back of the net Ende pushed him out of the way to get the goal. In the latter stages of the match Julian came as a substitute and added two more goals to the tally. His first a contender for goal of the season. Having just past the half way line Julian looked up to see the keeper off his line and played a beautiful shot to lob the back pedalling keeper.

A good performance by LAFC with the defence keeping a clean sheet apart form the penalty. Did they impress the management enough to keep the places for the next match, a must win tie against New Community?

Unfortunately there was no one at the match to provide a report. However England had a great game against Scotland in the Six Nations and it was a positive start to the campaign. Hopefully this is only just the start of things to come. The return of Jonny Wilkinson and Jason Robinson gave the team a huge lift. Lets home that they can carry this on until the World Cup.

Injury Blow

Follow an excellent performance last week against New Community it has come as blow this week to hear that Junior has injured the his knee. Initial diagnosis suggests that he could be out for up to 6 months. The injury seems similar to that sustained by Jon B last season. We are waiting on further tests to establish the full extent of the injury.

Important Spell for LAFC Starts

LAFC’s next four matches are must win games if they want a possible top two finish. With only a few points separating the 2nd to 4th in the table and their next 4 games including all 3 teams above them now is the time for LAFC to show their worth. 4 passionate team performances like the game against New Community is what is required.

New Community 2 – 1 Laos Athletic (after extra time)

Saturday saw LAFC arrive at Waring Park looking for their first win against NC in order to get one step closer to retaining the Mike Laxton Trophy. The only previous time LAFC had played at this ground they lost to Eltham Green in the semi-final of the 05-06 Mike King Cup, LAFC hoped this time they would have a quarter final win.

Following the success of last weeks recording of the game this week we had early 12 o’clock KO off to aid Sky Sports in their scheduling of live matches. Unfortunately the outside broadcasting unit got lost on the way and gave up and went home. Discussions are underway for next weeks match.

A last minute withdrawal from the side for what must be the lamest excuse yet meant the return of Ade between the sticks. The only other change was the introduction of Junior up front. For the first half of the game the match was evenly poised with both teams making chances but failing to convert. The match, a physical battle for both teams, was a passionate affair with everyone giving their all. An early substitution was required early on as Fish withdrew injured to be replaced by Jon B. Notable moments in the first half included a NC player almost putting Junior in a headlock to try and get the ball off him, and a NC handball appeal rejected by the referee when Jon B, on the post, cleared the ball from a corner. Half time came with the score 0 – 0.

The second half started with no changes to the LAFC line up. NC kicked off only for there 3rd pass to be intercepted by Jon B. A quick move involving Junior and Mustafa followed playing Jon B though the back line only for the shot to be just over. This move set a precedent for the beginning of the half LAFC had the majority share of the ball in the opening stages. During this spell Junior was replaced by Richard and swap of positions around followed. This stage of the match contained the first yellow card. This was awarded to the NC captain who fouled Michael while chasing him as the last defender. NC started to keep the ball and during one attack O’neill won the ball in the right back area and played a beautiful ball forward which found Michael. He controlled it well passing the last line of defence, shot and scored. NC restarted the match and within the minute equalised. The linesman had flagged for offside which was overruled by the ref. An aggrieved Michael “pointed this out" to the referee who booked him for dissent. LAFC’s first yellow of the season. The game then returned to much the same as the first half – an even battle with both teams having periods of control and opportunities to score requiring Ade to make a couple of amazing saves. LAFC soon had another opportunity to score when following a spill by the NC keeper the ball fell to Richard who headed the ball towards an empty net. An empty net that is apart from Alix who was standing in the middle of it and the ball hit him in the back. Another NC picked up a yellow for bad tackle, and then the NC captain got his second yellow of the match for a really bad tackle and was sent off. LAFC then attacked hard but were unable to get through the 10 men. Full time score 1 – 1.

Extra time now followed. Jon B came of to be replaced by a fresh set of legs in the form of Julian. The first half passed without much incident. The second started and about 5 mins into the second period of extra time a counter attack from NC gave a long cross into the box and the attacker beat the LAFC defensive to the ball and headed it home. It was heard said by one LAFC player that the scorer was a good look-alike for Peter Crouch! LAFC continued to pressure the NC goal but unfortunately weren’t able to score. For two years running LAFC were knocked out of cup competitions at Waring Park.

LAFC can take credit from this match though they played one of the, if not the, best team performance of the season so far. Hopefully this will carry across into next weeks match.

Due to an earlier Kick Off this week we will be meeting at Peckham Rye at 10 am. We want to make sure we win this so we can retain our title. So don’t be late then we can warm up properly before the match this week!!!

K.C.C 3 – 3 Laos Athletic

A rearranged game due to cup fixture clashes brought LAFC’s game against KCC forward. LAFC travelled to the ground determined to make amends for the disappointing equaliser in the last minute against S’boro Lane. LAFC were playing into the wind in the first half although for most of the early stages the game was mainly being played by LAFC players. So when KCC scored the first of the game it was a bit of a surprise – a long range effort into the top corner. LAFC continued to apply the pressure and eventually equalized with a great individual goal from Mustafa. Mustafa seemed to be speared on by the fact that the match was being filmed!!!!! A second soon followed with some good play around the box and then Michael played the ball back to Fish who was outside the area who placed the ball into the top corner. The celebration that followed saw Fish remove his shirt and do the rock the baby celebration. His first goal since he became a father! Half time loomed and the half ended 1 – 2 in LAFC’s favour.

A half time substitution for an injured Richard gave Julian the opportunity to come and take the left side. Hoping to now have the advantage of the wind behind them LAFC were disappointed when the wind dropped. KCC seized this opportunity and came up with an equalizer. 15 mins from time the manger (Jon B) makes an inspired substitution. Fish comes off, Alix moves into the middle and Ade comes on into the right wing position. A couple of minutes later with his 4th or 5th touch of the match Ade receives the ball outside the area and shoots (apparently!!!) and the ball hits the opposite upright and goes in. LAFC regain the lead. Unfortunately the match and one goal left in it and it belonged to KCC who about 5 mins from time equalized and the scored remained 3 – 3 to the end.

Unfortunately our usual reporter was in the Alps snowboarding so this week's report is a copy of the text sent to him after the match.

At 87 mins it was 2-2. Then Mike went on a run and cut it back for junior to fire home for 3-2! And then they got a corner…You can guess the rest.

A Week Off

LAFC took advantage of a week of to send scouts out before the January transfer window opens. Scouts travelled north up the M1 and M6 to watch a match involving a team in a similar situation to LAFC having also dropped too many silly points. The scouts watched the game between the King’s of Europe Liverpool and Premiership strugglers Watford. A couple of players caught the eye of the scouts. Bellamy’s amazing pace, turn of speed and movement off the ball was amazing. Agger was solid at the back but his distribution of the ball and his running forward with the ball provided other opportunities for attack was spot on. LAFC are considering making offers for both players during the transfer window.

Laos Athletic 4 – 2 Oakhall

Desperate for a win and to not drop any more points LAFC were prepared for a tough match against an Oakhall team that we’re relegated the previous season.

Things again got off to a poor start when at an Oakhall corner Ade punched the cross away only for it to hit an unsuspecting Dave on the head and rebounded into the goal. Anequalizerr soon followed with Ende converting a long cross from John. Before half time LAFC scored a second with Michael scoring with an over head kick from a ball from Mustafa.

Oakhall scored anequalizerr and the match was evenly balanced for almost all the remainder of the match until with less than 10 minutes left Michael scored his second again assisted by Mustafa. A forth soon followed quickly as Mustafa scored from a ball supplied by Fish.

The win provided a much needed 3 points and keeps them in the running for a good finish in the table. Two weeks rest now follows before back to back games away then home against Southborough Lane who were promoted with LAFC last season.

Orpington Town Church 2 – 1 Laos Athletic

LAFC hoped to turn last week’s win into a streak, having dropped 6 points in the league in recent weeks a win was really needed. Unfortunately Orpington got the first goal leaving LAFC to then chase the game. A goal from John brought the scores level. LAFC had a number of opportunities to go ahead and found the net only to for a dubious offside to be given. Orpington scored a second in the latter stages of the match. Again LAFC again found the back of the net and again it was incorrectly given offside. Although LAFC hounded the Orpington goal a second never came.

LAFC were determined this week to end their current club record breaking run of defeats, although things couldn'thave got off to a worse start; with car trouble, late arrivals, illnesses and injuries. This resulted in arriving at the ground 15 minutes before KO with one fit sub, one unfit sub and neither of the 1st two choice keepers available. Fortunately however Junior stepped up to the mark and had a great game between the sticks, a position he played a number of times last season. Also the starting 11 saw the return of Alex after gaining an ankle injury pre-season.

The game started well with LAFC's first goal coming from a goal mouth scramble in the first 10 minutes. The lead was soon extended to 2 followed by Selsdon pulling one back with a tremendous shot from outside the area into the top corner. LAFC responded straight away with another goal to restore the 2 goal lead. LAFC went on to score 4 more in the first half making the score 1-7 at half time. LAFC played some great passing football with Alex controlling the game from the centre of the pitch. It didn't though take long for LAFC to start show-boating with a back heel cross from Ende being headed into the back of the net and Julian bicycle kicking balls into the channels.

Having never scored more the 7 goals in a competitive match some supporters may have thought they were in for a boring second half. However LAFC even after words being had at half time gave into the temptation of the occasional moment of showing off with a far too many stepovers in one dribble from Mustafa!! LAFC soon netted another 3 to which Selsdon replied with 2 more. Half way through the half Michael Taylor replaced Julian and nearly scored in his first couple of minutes only to shoot wide and to be caught offside. Not to be deterred he soon had another crack and hit the post. With less than 10 minutes left Jon came on to give his knee a run out and replaced Michael Ayu Ogbe up front and he was straight into the action connecting with a cross (for his first touch of the ball) from Alex and finding the bottom right hand corner of the net only for a dubious offside to be given. With a limited number of minutes left Mustafa broke down the left wing, brought the ball into the box and played it into the mixer which Jon put away to start his tally for the season and scoring LAFC's 11th of the game. This now means that Jon has the best minutes in an attacking position to goals scored ratio in the team. Surely a statistic that speaks for itself!!

So LAFC's record breaking streak continues having recorded their longest number of straight defeats they have now recorded their best goal difference for a match and their most number of goals scored in a match. With another away game next week LAFC hope to turn this win into a winning streak.

Laos Athletic 0 – Penge Family Church 1

Unfortunately this week saw LAFC increase their record of consecutive losses increase to 3. This match was always going to be a tough game. Having beaten Penge in last season’s Mike King Trophy final LAFC knew that Penge would be out to settle the score.

With defender Dave back fully from his broken foot LAFC reverted back to the 3-5-2 that had held them in good stead for the previous season with the usual players in the usual positions. The only change being Ade replacing the injured Shaun between the sticks.

The first half saw some good football played by both teams. Both teams were solid at the back and although both teams had chances none were converted. As the players left the pitch for half time break the game was evenly poised with neither team having the upper hand.

The second half started much the same way the first had finished. Chances were being created at both ends of the pitch. After 33 minutes of the second half Penge broke the deadlock. A corner kick found the head of an unmarked player in the box and the ball made its way into the back of the net. LAFC applied the pressure in response but the with tired legs due to the quality of the pitch LAFC were unable to equalise.

This result means that LAFC now drop into 4 place 3 points behind the now division leaders Penge.

Next week LAFC face Selsdon Baptist B in the Mike King Trophy. LAFC will want to win this game not only reverse there current streak but also to defend the title they won last year.

Mike King Cup 1st Round: Laos Athletic 1 - All Saints 2

In they're first competitive match All Saints beat LAFC to go through to the next round of the Mike King Cup. It was a disappointing blow for LAFC who were hoping to better last seasons semi-final achievement.

All Saints first goal came from a set piece in the first half. A free kick on the right side of the box being slotted home by unmarked All Saints player. LAFC soon equalized with an All Saints own goal. In a goal mouth scramble All Saints were unable to clear the ball from their box and one attempt saw the ball go towards the goal line. The keeper grasped the ball and pulled it back but the referee deemed that the whole ball had already crossed the line. Another defensive error gave All Saints their second. An eventful first half with All Saints having the greater share of possession.

The second half underway and LAFC came out strong dominating for long periods of time. Unfortunately though they couldn't find the back of the net although they did manage to hit the woodwork 5 or 6 times and were unlucky not to score. Although not playing well enough to deserve the win a draw would have been a deserved result.

With two straight defeats, a first for LAFC, they now need to bounce back and focus on the league for the next couple of weeks.

Laos Athletic 3 - Kings Church Catford 0

Following last weeks clean sheet LAFC kept the same back four with the Richard playing the holding midfield role. Fish joined Mustafa again in midfield following his non-availability last week. The forward line started unchanged now for 3 consecutive matches.

Unfortunately KCC were unable to field a full team and played the match with only 9 men. Right from the KO LAFC took advantage of the extra men with Michael scoring on 57 seconds. Soon Ende increased the lead to 2 and a second by Michael took the tally to three at half time.

The second half saw LAFC relax perhaps a little to much being 3-0 up and playing against 9 men. Although they didn't concede their lack of drive and motivation had reduced. This gave KCC more of the ball than they really deserved. This wasn't a classic LAFC performance and one that they'll quickly forget, but on a positive note 3 points, clean sheet and back to the top of the table.

Mike Laxton Cup – 2nd Round Draw

Following a 7 – 2 win over Christchurch Beckenham by Selsdon Baptist Church B, LAFC will now play Selsdon in the 2nd round.

Top of Division 2

Following their second game and second successive win of the season, LAFC now hold the top spot in Division 2 for the first time this season. There are currently 4 teams on six points but LAFC are top based on Goal Difference. LAFC also have a game in hand over 2 of the 4 teams.

With a number of players away LAFC started Ade at right back – a position he had played previously – and Jon started at left back. CCB won the toss and choose to play uphill in the first half. Following a brief disagreement between the ref and CCB on the adequacy of their £50 Adidas World Cup replica ball the game got underway.

LAFC played a solid first half although never reaching their best which allowed CCB more of the ball than LAFC would have liked. A number of shots were made in the first half but LAFC failed to find the back of the net and take advantage of the slope. CCB only had one shot on target during the first half forcing a finger tip save form the keeper. This was to be the only real save the LAFC keeper was required to make during the match. The first half ended 0-0

The second half saw CCB gain the down hill advantage but LAFC came out strong and managed in the early stages to have control of the game. Early into the second half Ade broke the deadlock when what was thought by many to be a cross into the box, the ball found the back of the net. Only Ade knows what he really meant!!! Hopefully this will be the first of many for Ade. The lead was soon extended with a run to the by-line by Mustafa who’s cut back into the box allowed Michael to double the lead. In a continued spell of attacks and possession by LAFC, Mustafa got the third and Julian the fourth with an outrageous back head flick just outside the box. Towards the end of the half CCB managed to keep hold of the ball for longer periods but were unable to convert it into goals.

This result now provides the manager with a dilemma with players returning for the next match does he stay with the defensive line up that provided the first clean sheet of the season or does he reintroduce the absent players? Is it coincidence that the first time Ade and Jon start in full backs LAFC get their first clean sheet – who knows?!?

LAFC's season got off to rocky start with a dodgy first half going a goal behind three times in the first half. Although the three goals conceded could be argued to have been weak there is no denying the quality of volley from and unmarked BCC striker for their second.

They may have gone behind three times but LAFC had the larger percentage of possession in the first half and created a number of chances one memorable attempt seeing Ende beat the keeper only to have his shot cleared off the line by a retreating defender.

In the second half LAFC produced a display a bit more like we accustomed to seeing. They kept a clean sheet for the second half and produced a number of excellent scoring opportunities and would have scored more than the two had it not been form a couple of finger tip saves from the keeper. LAFC's fourth goal was a quality free kick from Mustafa which left the keeper stranded.

LAFC start the season with maximum points and are only kept off the top spot in the league due to goal difference.

Laos Fixtures 06-07

League Presentation Service

11 LAFC players attended the presentation service on Sunday evening walking down the red carpet to what was a star studded event. A number of major fashion and sports companies had managed to get the celebrities to where their labels. Amoung the labels spotted by this reportor include the likes of Nike, Converse, Base, Next, Burtons, Base, Puma it was even rumoured that one star was wearing M&S.

LAFC won trophies. Club Captain O'neil Brown collected the trophy for the Mike Laxton Cup and then later in the evening led the team forward to collect the Division 3 trophy and their medals. Micheal Ayu Ogbe of LAFC also was awarded a trophy for the seasons top goal scorer.

Laos Athletic 7 - All Saints 5

Saturday was the last of the LAFC's pre-season friendlies. In a high scoring match LAFC achieved 3 wins out of 3 pre-season to start the league on to a winning streak. This the opposite to last season where they started the season the back of two defeats.

Only having 12 players on Saturday the LAFC Manager had different set of selection issues to some of the previous games where upto 18 players were available for selection. There were fine performances from a number of the players who took the opportunity of a full game to try and gain themselves a starting role in the first match next week. Whether they were succesful only time will tell.

Saturday is LAFC's third and final friendly before the season really kicks off. With 2 wins already LAFC are hoping to make it 3 out of 3. LAFC are ready to put right the result of last seasons friendly which they lost 7-0 (we think!)

This match has added significance as it is a precursor to the 1st round of the Mike King Trophy where both teams meet for the first time in competition.

History Repeats Itself

The 5-a-side squad repeated last years achievement of reaching the quarter finals of the competition.

News leaked from an inside source at the offices of LAFC state that the squad for this Saturday's 5-a-side tournament is likely to be announced at tonight's midweek training session. Official sources have declined to comment on this speculation.

LAFC face local derby in 1st round

Last night amongst a media frenzy the draws for the Mike King Trophy and the Mike Laxton cup took place.

A tough 1st two rounds faces LAFC in the Mike King Trophy having drawn local side All Saints Peckham in the first round then if successful a home tie against UCF in the second. The two Peckham based sides have only met in friendlies never in competition so both teams are looking forward to the clash.

Following promotion to the second division and winning the Mike Laxton Cup last season LAFC have gained a bye for the first round of the cup and will face the winners of Christchurch Beckenham and Selsdon Baptist B in the second.

Watch this Space

Tonight is the draw for the first two rounds of the Mike Laxton Cup and Mike King Trophy. LAFC hope their draws will help them repeat the successes they had in both competitions last season.

Next Saturday is the League 5-a-side competition. The 8 players selected to represent LAFC will be announced here first.

Laos Athletic 10 (ish) - Uz's Team 4 (ish)

Laos played their 2nd of 3 friendlies at Peckham Rye on Saturday, although initially it looked like it might be called off. This was as a result of not having a referee, nets and the pitch not being in great condition having been repaired in the previous week due to collapsed drainage.

Following his injury on Tursday Chris was fit enough to play. He played a great game in the 2nd half after he had refereed the 1st.

Laos Injury Crisis Continues Part 2

Thursday saw Laos take part in a training match. In two separate incidents, but both as a result of challenges, Chris hurt his back possibly as a result of catching a nerve and Alix twisted his ankle badly. Neither player was able to continue to play. It is hoped that might be available for selection for Saturday's friendly but being only two days away the decision maybe taken to give the a rest.

The players, club and fans are hoping this trend of injuries isn't going to continue.

Laos Injury Crisis Continues

An injury sustained to his foot sustained in the 1st half of the match against Eltham prohibited Shaun from playing in the 2nd half and was replaced by Junior between the sticks. With last season's top defender Dave out for 5+ weeks with a broken ankle the management are hoping their injury list isn't going to get any longer.

Shaun had a medical examination late Saturday night and it is hoped that he should be fit for next weeks friendly. Shaun will undergo a fitness test on Thursday and a decision will be made then on his availability for selection.

After the injury sustained during the friendlies last season to Jon which kept him out of most of the last season, the management are hoping that losing key players before the season truly kicks off isn't going to be seasonal trend.

Laos' 1st pre-friendly saw them reverse the score that saw them knocked out of the Mike King Cup last season. Laos showed the depth of talent available in their squad by fielding 17 different players during the game. An encouraging start for Laos as they face an unknown team (both on the pitch and also their team name) next week.

Our first of three pre-season friendlies is on the 2nd Sept against Eltham Green. Arrive at Belair Park at 11:30. Let's reverse the result that saw us knocked out of the cup last season.
